I was reorganising my blog a few days ago and realised I have one travel post and so many memories. Let me take you back to the summer of 2022.
I started off in Washington D.C and also visited a few places in Maryland. Didn’t do much in D.C., except conferencing and cultural exchange trips including visits to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
I also toured Foggy Bottom and visited Howard University, a historically Black institution. I enjoyed the Howard Uni Campus experience and learnt of some great people that have passed through this HBCU (i.e., Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Fun fact: Howard University’s College of Fine Arts is now named after Chadwick Boseman (may his soul rest in peace), an alumnus of the university. #WakandaForever
I can say that I particularly enjoyed the Southern Hospitality in Mississippi and Louisiana. The food was nothing short of amazing – it made me forget about the uninspiring meals in D.C. However, the stories told of where Mississippi has been and the segregation that continues to this day was heart-wrenching. While visiting the museums was quite the experience, it rather left me exhausted from the pain of the past.
Most of my time was spent at Jackson State University’s College of Business in business and cultural exchange classes. Outside class, I got to visit the Mississippi Children’s Museum, Two Mississippi Museums, BB King Museum in the Mississippi Delta and went on a boat cruise in New Orleans. The Two Mississippi Museums are Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.
You might wonder why I visited so many museums? The main purpose of the trip was a cultural exchange experience and learning about black history in America. We also visited local businesses and organisations making an impact in their communities and their stories were inspiring.
I shared separate US photography blog posts with some shots I took during my trip. Meanwhile, here are some receipts from Mississippi and Louisiana.

Though it was very hot, it was an unforgettable experience!
