It seems we as government departments or parastatals think taxes suck and so we just evade them. Honestly, how can we evade millions in taxes when we are supposed to be leading by example. ZINARA has clearly declared that taxes suck. Firstly, they have not paid withholding taxes amounting to US$7.5 million. Then there’s the issue of PAYE, total evasion I tell you. Management (which is about 13 managers<\/a>) were paid at least US$10,000 each in allowances outside the payroll. When we do the math, that’s about US$39,000 lost in taxes per month.<\/p>\n

 ZINARA is also responsible for auditing the use of the funds from the road fund by road authorities and ensure that disbursed funds are utilised for the purpose which they are intended in accordance with the rules prescribed by ZINARA. – <\/em>Adapted from ZINARA website<\/a>. <\/em>It seems they can’t even perform their responsibilities because they allocated more than budgeted to some road authorities while some received nothing. And then we blame sanctions for the downturn in Zimbabwe. I want to see how this one goes…..<\/p>\n
